In 2009 Paul and Joan formed a business partnership called Wolverhampton Hypnotherapy and began offering a range of Hypnotherapy and Hypno-Analysis services out of their offices in Berrington Lodge on the Tettenhall road in Wolverhampton.
Paul had originally trained in Hypno-Analysis in 1988 with the International Association of Hypnoanalysts (IAH) but at the time, being only 24 years of age, Paul decided he was too young to go into practice and went off to follow a career in operational management for various companies, culminating in an international posting as South European Manufacturing Manager for a large American Corporation (Ferro, USA) based in Castellon-de-la-plana in eastern Spain.
After returning from Spain in 2000, Paul took several board level appointments for Midlands based organisations, working primarily in Human Resource development roles, before taking the plunge to start his own psychological service business.
Paul has a BSc. (honours) degree majoring in Psychology as well as a Masters degree (MSc. with Distinction) in applied Psychology.
Joan had previously followed a career in sales office and account management in a number of Black Country businesses but after attending a Hypnotherapy conference with Paul in 2008, decided that she would also like to train in Hypnotherapy. Joan was awarded her Diploma in Hypnotherapy in 2011 from the then, re-named International Association for Pure Hypnoanalysis (IAPH).
Today, Joan is an undergraduate with the Open University studying for her BPS accredited degree in psychology with counselling.
Berrington Lodge, Regent House & the House by the Square
Between 2009 and 2015 the demand for business services grew to the extent that both Paul and Joan needed separate offices and the decision was made to re-locate to The House by the Square in Codsall where they took up three rooms and stayed until 2017.
Maypole House, Wombourne
In 2017, with demand continuing to grow, it was decided to once again re-locate to new offices in the heart of Wombourne and form a new business, alongside Wolverhampton Hypnotherapy, called Tranceform Psychology which focused on providing evidence-based psychotherapy and counselling separately from the hypnotherapy business.
Working with the NHS
At almost the same time, Tranceform Psychology were awarded official supplier status to the Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) providing both group training seminars as well as individual one-to-one counselling courses.
In total, more than 65 managers and staff (30% of the workforce!) undertook Paul’s CBT-based training programme with Joan also delivering the programme to a number of NHS staff.
Paul is currently (2022) working with management and staff at the Birmingham and Solihull Integrated Care Board (ICB).
During 2018 Paul and Joan also acquired the global Hypno-Band Weight Loss System from John Maclean who had created it in 2010.
There are currently 1,500 licensed practitioners using the system all over the World.
In addition to granting pracitioner licenses, we also design and produce Hypno-Band practitioner websites.
Paul is also an expert DIVI website designer and has been building websites for Psychologists, Psychotherapists and Hypnotherapists since 2010.
Our web design service, Therapy Webs, provides a full suite of services to therapists including design, hosting, domain name services, SSL certificates and in-site SEO using Yoast and oither premium plug-ins.
The Birth of Lee Psychology
Lee Psychology was formed in 2022 and marks a new transition for Paul and Joan. Since gaining his masters degree in applied psychology in 2020 Paul has been actively re-formulating his philosophical position concerning the amelioration of human distress through counselling.
This new position recognises the damaging impacts that psychiatric diagnosis, medicalisation and pathologisation can have on people suffering mental distress and seeks to present a new and more social and psychologically informed approach to helping people deal with emotional challenges.
This new approach can be described as Psychosocial as it takes into account well-researched psychological principles which are combined with an understanding of the social and cultural contexts in which people actually live their lives rather than the reductionist, objective perspectives which attempt to classify difficult emotional problems as ‘mental illnesses’ or ‘diseases’ which are independent of a person’s experiences.
